Presentations should be created in Prezi, YouTube, Screencast-o-matic, or Voice Thread. Presentation must include an introduction of the topic (stating the purpose of your research paper clearly)/problem you are addressing, a brief literature review, the rationale for the best intervention or solution to the problem, anticipated outcomes of your intervention, faith integration with scripture and reflective concluding remarks. Presentations are to include both text (e.g. bullet points), visuals (charts, graphs, images), and narration (audio). Students are NOT to film themselves speaking directly in front of the camera in a casual manner, but to treat this as a professional presentation. Students must submit a working URL link or mp4 file. Literature Review on Unemployment

Research from the International Monetary Fund published in 2016 revealed a high number of unemployed persons in the world. For instance, the findings revealed that youths between the ages of 15 and 24 in 2003-2016 dropped out of school or did not have decent jobs. These populations marked 25% in developing countries, while 10% represented youths in developed countries (ILO, 2016). During this research study, countries such as South Africa, Greece, and Spain comprised the highest youth unemployment rates. This signifies that a vast majority of the youths do not have jobs, or if they do, their jobs are indecent. It also implies that the youth generation is at risk in the labor market. Based on various scholarly articles and literature, unemployment is greatly associated with ill health. Most illnesses are caused and exacerbated by unemployment. Unemployment is detrimental to the physical, mental, and emotional health of the victims. This is because there is strong evidence that unemployment negatively impacts the mental health of individual victims and the people around them. Unemployed people tend to have low self-esteem and confidence issues because of their poor financial status.
As elaborated by scholars such as Tomic, Baah-Boateng, and Pastore, youths aged 15-24 years face the greatest risk of being unemployed; that is why most of them are always forced to perform indecent labor-intensive jobs to earn a living and meet their bills. More so, at this age, most of them juggle with joblessness, struggle to attain personal improvements, and find a stable job to do amidst the older and experienced people. Many youths have limited experience that possesses the biggest challenge in the labor market. Many job seekers tend to quickly change their jobs as they focus on learning about aptitudes and job preferences. This has been a major reason for higher employee turnover rates in youth-dominated companies for a long time. According to Mascherini (2019), the present structure of formal education has made youths in the formative years experience inactive years in the labor market. Therefore, even in areas where youths are working, the formal education structure has led to low attachment levels in such fields. More so, Sahnoun and Abdennadher (2018) resonate with Elder’s ideas about employment. According to their arguments, many companies and organizations avoid heavily investing in nurturing youths in their workplaces because of their low demands in the labor market.
According to Baah-Boating (2021), Moore (2019), and Anosike (2019), the current high rates of unemployment are attributed to be the major stressors of mental health and financial hardships among many people across generations. Unemployment affects the mental and financial health of individuals in their present and future lives. They diminish their present and future lives because they majorly predispose people towards criminal acts. More so, as Tomic (2018) argues in his research, unemployment increases overdependence on working employees, which in return negatively impacts taxable payments and social security costs.
Research from scholars such as Moore (2019) provides insights on the need to deal with or address the issue of unemployment in the US and across the globe. Moore argues that most parts of the world have already started working on findings various ways to address the issue of unemployment. Some parts of the world have begun doing this by improving the education system programs to allow equality in the education system whereby all students access education, promotion of youth empowerment programs, and pushing for self-employment strategies. However, many scholars argue that the same policies have been in place for a longer time without any changes; if any, the changes are slower than how the issue of unemployment is escalating. Therefore, some of these scholars have started approaching the issue of unemployment from an individual-centered approach. For instance, when handling the issue of youth unemployment, scholars such as Buheji (2019) illustrates how more emphasis is being placed on encouraging the youths to be more proactive, innovative, competitive, and visionary.
Similarly, Riphahn and Zibrowius (2016) back up the inclusive approach. For instance, some countries have created apprenticeship programs with integrated vocational education programs in the curriculum. Through this, many youths in such countries have gained entrance into the job market compared to countries that are still focused on generalized curriculums. Shifting our focus from the generalized curriculum to a population-centered or job-centered curriculum will help students gain enough experience and expertise in what they intend to do for their professions. It also reduces the amount of time they will stay inactive after school. Therefore, as much as the issue of unemployment is a great issue derailing economic progress in many nations, policies put in place have provided a little remedy or no remedy for the past decades. It is now for countries worldwide to develop interventions that will be eliminated or mitigate the unemployment issue among all populations, especially the youths.
