For this assignment, imagine you will be presenting at a conference for an audience of newly hired human resource professionals. You are to share your knowledge about how to evaluate the effectiveness of different recruiting and employee selection methods by applying human resource management (HRM) principles.
In your introduction, include one type of position you would like to hire for and the KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) required for that position.
Include examples of methods used in recruitment efforts that foster diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Consider the diverse cultures and social practices that surround your specific local or regional community.
Include an explanation of steps used in the employee selection process.
Use speaker notes to explain the content (in detail) for each of the slides, and support your presentation with at least two references. One reference may be your textbook.
Include a minimum of one graphic or image that relates to the content.
Your PowerPoint presentation must be at least five slides in length, not counting the title or reference slides. Adhere to APA style when constructing this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used.
In Unit II we covered The Legal Environment and Diversity, as well as, Workforce Planning, including Job Analysis, Design, and Employment Forecasting, now in Unit III we are going to move on Recruiting Job Candidates (Chapter 5, pp. 154-176) and Selecting New Employees (Chapter 6, pp. 184-215).
This is the logical next step after learning about creating a legally compliant diverse workforce and developing an appropriate workforce plan. It’s not enough just to recruit candidates, we have to develop a plan to select the best candidates.
In Unit IV we will look at Learning and Development, as well as Performance Management and Appraisal.
Thinking about how to handle the PPT assignment, I will honestly tell you up front, in addition to the knowledge I acquired earning my undergraduate degree – all these years later, one other skill set I gained has served me well, and that is learning to read and follow directions. I’m honestly not kidding – I learned to look at and dissect the directions for any assignment.
For example, for the PPT that is due this week. We know you need to have at least 5 slides (not including the title and reference slide), you need at least one graphic (which needs to relate to the content).
Here’s how I would suggest you approach the assignment. Because for every assignment faculty have to grade for specific deliverables – I’d go with something like the below.
Slide 1 and 2: In your introduction, include one type of position you would like to hire for and the KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) required for that position. Specifically identify the KSAs, don’t just list them all together. In your text reading there are specific examples to show you what constitutes Knowledge, what constitutes a Skill, what constitutes an Ability. We want to see here that you know how to identify each.
Slides 3 and 4: examples of methods used in recruitment efforts that foster diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Consider the diverse cultures and social practices that surround your specific local or regional community. Remember, the focus is on recruiting for diversity, not just recruiting.
Slide 5: Explanation of steps used in the employee selection process. These steps are included in your text reading.
Use speaker notes to explain the content (in detail) for each of the slides. The bulk of your presentation should be in the speaker notes not on the slides.
Be sure to use APA formatting and in text citations – remember, a source is not a source if you don’t include an intext citation to show where it was used. Sometimes students include multiple sources but do not include an intext citation for each one of those sources, that loses you points.
When doing the PowerPoint , remember to follow the 6×6 PPT rule, the bulk of your presentation should be in the speaker notes, not on the slides.
