U.S Citizenship for Free White Men

The culture of America was created in a way that it was suitable and welcomed immigrant in the country and were given the freedom to even become full citizens to the nation. In the past, this was only limited to the white men who stayed for two years consistently in the country, however in 1802 these were changed and the minimum years that a person could stay in a country to fully become a citizen was 5 years, an oath of allegiance was also needed and a recommendation from two citizens who acted as witnesses (Bennett, 2018). The issue of race however became an issue as days passed by and this made citizenship only to be restricted to the white people and this was specifically for the Anglo-Saxons whites. In the next 100 years after 1870, race continued to be a determinant for citizenship in the United States and this also became a big factor in admitting immigrants in the country.

Early Waves of Immigrants from Western and Northern Europe

Soon after the end of the Napoleonic wars, the first wave of the European immigrants started entering to the new established nation. The immigrants who came in were many and they numbered the total population of the United States at that time. The reasons that lead to the immigration of people to the country are closely associated with the reasons that are currently existing today. These reasons range from economic problems, religious factors and other factors that still determine immigration purposes even today.

Global Refugee Crisis: The International Homeless

In the recent few years, the number of forcefully displaced people has been dramatically increasing. More than 60 million people according to the UNHCR reports have been displaced from their homes. These people have been displaced and became immigrants in different countries for many reasons, some of the countries that have the highest number of displaced people include Syria, Somalia and Afghanistan (Bennett, 2018). Most host countries can only host the refugees until they can return home. A few number of refugees can be citizens of the second host country and even a smaller number will be employed by the same. Statistics have shown that a very small number of less than 1% usually end up settling in the host country.
