Criteria for Success:

Your main post should contain 360 or more words.

Iam study biomedical sciences program.
this is. SAMPLE 1. Choose a topic that is related to your career or field of study. After viewing the following video, share your research question.  For additional help see pp. 24-25 for help.

I am studying industrial management, so I want to pick a topic related to OSHA laws. OSHA laws are workplace safety regulations that employers must follow.

2. Identify two different sources that are conversing on your topic. Share some commentary on each of these two sources.

Knight, C. (2020, Jan. 28). Midwest Ammunition cited by OSHA after employee death. The Enquirer. Retrieved from https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2020/01/28/midwest-ammunition-cited-osha-after-employee-death/4600346002/.

The above article demonstrates the clear need for OSHA laws. Many employers feel these laws are too restrictive and harm their bottom line, but employee safety is very important and should not be overlooked for the sake of company profits. In the article here, numerous safety violations were reported, including employees exposed to lead and waste gun powder was not removed from the floor. These seem like simple fixes that Midwest Ammunition overlooked.

Brent, N. (2016, Nov. 16). Workplace safety a must for nurses. Nurse.com. Retrieved from https://www.nurse.com/blog/2016/11/16/what-nurses-need-to-know-about-workplace-safety/.

In the above article, Brent focuses on why OSHA laws should particularly be followed in nursing settings. Many overlook hospitals given the fact that they are not traditional industry centers where large numbers of factory workers are hurt. However, OSHA laws are still relevant to nurses as they often are injured picking up patients, slipping on spills, or even being endangered by infectious diseases through improper needle disposal. Brent notes that nurses should follow a basic “See Something, Say Something” policy and present dangers to their superiors.

3. Identify how both sources relate to what you listed as your topic in Point 1.

I want to argue that OSHA laws are important and should be followed. Both sources demonstrate how OSHA laws are relevant not just in manufacturing but also in healthcare. Comment by Joel Wilson: Note that this is not really an argument quite yet. IT’s a bit vague, but this will be developed during Week 2.

4. Explain how these sources relate to one another. How are they adding to one another?

These two sources are talking about different industries, but they are both speaking to the need of worker safety. Both articles present the dangers of not following OSHA laws, including injury as well as death, seen in the article on Midwest Ammunition.

5. Finally, identify what these sources add to your knowledge, what questions these sources raise, what is missing from them, and what you might be able to add to this “conversation.”

Neither of these sources really address what OSHA actually says about matters. Additionally, neither source presents employers’ views. Neither present best-case examples nor historical information either. I think I might be able to look at some best-case examples and apply them to an industry I’m interested in. Comment by Joel Wilson: Note how question 5 encouraged the student to begin thinking about what direction he might be able to take his paper.
